WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons vs Egypt Preview

Nigeria faces Egypt in a must win final Group C fixture of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at the Olympic Stadium, Rabat, Morocco. While knowing that nothing less than victory will secure a place for the West Africa giant in the quarter final.
Though the Super Falcons didn’t start well, the ten time Africa champions responded with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia to keep their qualification hopes alive.
That result restored belief within the squad, but Justin Madugu’s side still has work to do against an Egyptian team eager to end its campaign on a positive note.
Nigeria will, however, be without suspended duo of Tosin Demehin and Jennifer Echegini, forcing Madugu into defensive and midfield adjustments.
The Super Falcons will once again rely on experienced stars such as Rasheedat Ajibade, Michelle Alozie, Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala to provide defensive leadership and attacking inspiration.
Egypt have struggled throughout the tournament and are yet to register a point in Group C, but the Pharaohs will be determined to upset the defending champions. Their pace on the counterattack could trouble Nigeria if the Falcons fail to convert their chances early.
Falcons will traditionally dominate this fixture and will enter the contest as favourites. Their superior experience, squad depth and attacking quality should give them the edge, but they cannot afford complacency in a game that could define their WAFCON campaign.
