The 140 young school leavers in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) trained by the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association (USGEAA) in partnership with United States Consulate on how to turn waste to wealth  are ready to  start the job.

According to them, they have got the expertise to do the job and make money from it.

As earlier reported by ECHONEWS, the two-day programme tagged “Youth Empowerment for Climate Action (YECA)” with focus on promoting economic growth and development through youths engagement was held last Tuesday and Wednesday in the council secretariat

The training was facilitated by council leader, Hon. Remy Shittu Remy.

The trainees were presented with start-up kit and certificates after being practically lectured by more than six facilitators who took them on the ways recyclables could be profitably exchanged for cash or upcycled and traded during the two-day intensive skills acquisition exercise.

The council chairman, Hon. Shamsudeen Olaleye, who appreciated  that Isolo is the pioneer council area where the programme was held, disclosed the council’s readiness to partner with recyclers in the community.

He said the council would provide a collection centre where recyclables such as pet bottles could be exchanged for cash and other worthy items in the council premises in order to further engage the youths, create employment opportunity and make the community cleaner and safer for all.

Commenting on the programme, the council leader explained that he was inspired to influence the programme to the council area having analysed and gotten convinced that the enormous energy the youths invested in the #EndSARS protest could be better channelled into profitable engagement of this nature.

He, however, advised the trainees to make judicious use of the knowledge.

Also speaking, the USGEAA Vice Chairman, Dr. Rosemary Danesi, said the association would monitor the progress of the beneficiaries for further guidance as she urged them to make profitable use of the skills acquired and pass the knowledge across to others.

She emphasised that similar activities will be done for 100 youths in Ikoyi/Obalende  January next year.
