US-sponsored training for young women begins today

The first batch of entrepreneurial training and mentorship programmes for young women between the ages of 16 and 25 years in Isolo Local Council Development Area, sponsored by the United States Consulate and other affiliate organisations, will commence today, Monday, January 18.

According to the organiser, the programme, which will be in three batches for the prospective beneficiaries, will run through January to March, April to June and July to September respectively  followed by internship after which the most promising student from each batch will be supported with start-up equipment worth N300,000, as explained by the CEO of iStarter Hub, Mrs. Modupe Adeoye, the organiser of the program.

Adeoye, who is a beneficiary of US Consulate grant, urged young girls within the age bracket to maximise the opportunity to equip themselves with the needed knowledge about creative designing and other entrepreneurial skill to create jobs and add value to themselves and the community. 

“The “Girls Creativity Hub” initiative is an intensive Creative Designing and Entrepreneurship skills acquisition programme that would see 100 young women between the ages of 16 and 25 years old engaged productively, learning the act of putting their  minds to creating jobs and adding value to themself and the society,” she said.

She explained that she came up with the initiative to engage the youths in a gainful training during the time they seek admission into higher institutions after their secondary school education.

She commended the Isolo council leader, Hon. Remy Shittu Remy for helping her secure the grant, noting that the training would be the second youth empowerment programme the leader has facilitated into the council area following the completion of waste to wealth programme.

According to the organiser, the training is taking olace at the hub for the onsite training located at 13, Owolabi Street, Ago Palace Way. 

She explained that the venue has been fitted with printing equipment which includes Heat Press Machine, 3D Sublimation printer, Contour Plotter Quarter 24 inches and 12 inches, sublimation printer and others for the yearlong intensive programme, adding that  prospective participants could register online through the registration link: bit.ly/GCH2021Participants.
