Singer Niniola Reveals Death of Secretly Married Husband, Michael Ndika
Nigerian Afro-house singer Niniola Apata has announced the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, in a series of emotional posts shared on Instagram in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Grammy-nominated artiste broke the news in three brief messages accompanied by photos of herself and her late husband.
“God took him,” she wrote in her first post.
In a second post, she added: “My husband died”.
She followed with another message stating: “God took him. 13 years.”
The circumstances surrounding Ndika’s death had not been disclosed at the time of filing this report, while no official cause of death has been confirmed.
Niniola has not released any further statement beyond her Instagram posts, which also suggested the couple had been together for 13 years.
The announcement also revealed a previously private aspect of the singer’s personal life, confirming that she had been married away from the public eye.
The news has shocked fans and members of the entertainment industry, particularly as Niniola had consistently kept details of her marriage private.
As recently as October 2025, she had denied reports of being married during an interview on Yanga FM Lagos, saying:
“I don’t care what anyone says about my personal life. I’m not a 12-year-old. I’m not married,” she stated at the time.
Before his death, Ndika was known to be the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a digital entertainment platform focused on Afro-house and Afrobeats music.
He was also a graduate of Computer Science from Lagos State University and Yaba College of Technology.
Niniola rose to prominence after her breakout appearance on Project Fame West Africa in 2013 and later gained international recognition with her 2017 hit single Maradona, which attracted praise from global music stars.
She is the elder sister of singer Teni.
