Showunmi Hails Seyi Tinubu as ‘Son Worthy of Admiration’ as City Boy Movement Gains Ground in Lagos
Former spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar, Segun Showunmi, has praised Seyi Tinubu, describing the President’s son as “a son worthy of admiration” and saying every father would be grateful to have a child like him.
Showunmi made the remarks in a Facebook post while commenting on an initiative associated with Seyi Tinubu and the City Boy Movement, a youth-oriented political platform whose activities have increasingly attracted attention in Lagos and beyond.
The former Atiku spokesperson said his admiration was not based on the physical structures surrounding the initiative, but on what he described as an “inclusive organisational culture” that brought together young Nigerians from different ethnic, religious and social backgrounds.
Seyi Tinubu is the patron of the City Boy Movement, which was established in 2022 to promote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The movement has positioned itself as a platform for youth mobilisation and political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development has particular significance in Lagos, where the Tinubu family has a long-standing political association and where the City Boy Movement has undertaken youth-focused activities.
In October 2025, the movement organised an empowerment programme in Alausa, Ikeja, where about 3,000 beneficiaries reportedly received ₦50,000 each as part of activities marking Seyi Tinubu’s 40th birthday.
The programme attracted political leaders, lawmakers and youth representatives.
The movement has also continued to expand its political structure nationally. In February 2026, Seyi Tinubu appointed businessman Obi Cubana as its South-East coordinator, highlighting the organisation’s attempt to build networks beyond its Lagos base.
Showunmi’s latest comments are notable because of his previous association with Atiku Abubakar, who was one of President Tinubu’s major opponents in the 2023 presidential election.
His description of Seyi as a “son worthy of admiration” therefore adds a fresh political dimension to the growing public conversation around the younger Tinubu and his role in youth mobilisation.
For Lagos, where political networks and youth mobilisation are expected to remain central to the emerging 2027 political conversation, the growing profile of the City Boy Movement could make Seyi Tinubu an increasingly prominent figure in the state’s political discourse.
