By Saheed Afolabi
The Super Eagles held their first training session in Nizhny Novgorod on Saturday as they prepare for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia.
Seventeen players took part in the session, among them 101-cap winger Moses Simon, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders Benjamin Fredrick, Emmanuel Fernandez, forwards Kelechi Iheanacho and Akor Adams.
The squad will complete two further training sessions on Sunday and Monday before the match at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Players and officials arrived after travelling on Turkish Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines flights via Istanbul and Addis Ababa, continuing to Moscow and then on to Nizhny Novgorod.
The two sides last met on 6 June last year, playing out a 1-1 draw at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium. Russia took the lead through an own goal by defender Semi Ajayi before Tolu Arokodare equalised for Nigeria.
