The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has confirmed the death of a police officer following a fatal accident on the Third Mainland Bridge inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to him, the tragic incident occurred when a Lexus vehicle with registration number EPE 765 JN reportedly rammed into a police officer riding a Bajaj motorcycle on the bridge.

“The officer died on the spot,” Bakare-Oki stated.

He further revealed that the driver of the Lexus vehicle later turned himself in at the Adekunle Police Division shortly after the accident.

Following distress calls, officials of LASTMA and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene to manage traffic and commence emergency response operations.

Bakare-Oki said traffic cones and other safety devices were immediately deployed around the accident scene to prevent secondary crashes while police officers documented the incident.

He added that coordinated evacuation efforts later removed the affected vehicles from the bridge, allowing traffic flow to gradually return to normal.

The LASTMA boss urged motorists to obey speed limits, avoid reckless driving and comply with traffic regulations to reduce avoidable accidents and fatalities on Lagos roads.
