Police arraign two POS operators for allegedly stealing N2.5m

Two Point of Sales, POS, business operators have been arrested by the Police for allegely stealing the sum of N2.5m at Magodo, Lagos.

The suspects : Marcus Olaitan, 43, and Ajibade Adeolu, 30, who reside at Ketu area in Lagos were arraigned before Magistate Bola Osunsami at the Ikeja Magistates’ Court for conspiracy and theft.

Police Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court, “Olaitan of age 43 and Adeolu, 30, commited the offences on September 4, 2023, from a First Bank PLC ATM, on CMD Road, Magodo-Shangisha, Lagos after a complainant, Mrs Wuraola Odeniyi, went to the ATM to withdraw money and met the suspects at the bank.

“They offered to help the complainant, and unknown to her, they had memorized her Personal Identification Number (PIN).

“Later that day, the woman received a N2.517 million debit alert,” he said.

Akeem said that when the complainant went to the bank to complain, CCTV footage was played and the defendants she met at the ATM kiosk were seen reciting the PIN numbers used on her card.

The prosecutor said that the police were able to trace the POS operators who withdrew the money. He said that the offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistate Osunsanmi, granted them bail of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case till March 18 for mention.
