Oyekola Challenges Osaigbovo For WBA Africa Lightweight Gold Title Rematc
By Saheed Afolabi
Tosin Osaigbovo and Ridwan Oyekola will renew their rivalry on 26 September 2026 when they clash for the WBA Africa Lightweight Gold title at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The 10-round contest will headline Battle of the Ages 14, promoted by De Lad’s Boxing Promotions, with the action scheduled to begin at 5:00pm.
The bout carries added significance as both fighters seek to settle unfinished business from their first meeting. On 29 December 2024 at Campos Mini Stadium in Lagos, Osaigbovo known as Sojar Boy, defeated Oyekola by unanimous decision over eight rounds. The World Boxing Association officially records the result as an eight-round unanimous decision in Osaigbovo’s favour.
Oyekola’s camp disputed the verdict at the time and has consistently called for a rematch. That opportunity has now been granted, elevating the rivalry to continental level.
Osaigbovo will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Taiwo “Esepo” Agbaje in April 2026, when Agbaje claimed the WBA Africa Lightweight title. A victory over Oyekola would strengthen Osaigbovo’s standing in the division.
Oyekola, for his part, aims to reverse the outcome of their first encounter and establish himself among the top lightweights in Nigeria and Africa.
According to WBA records, Osaigbovo remains undefeated at 12-0 with eight knockouts, while Oyekola stands at 12-4-2 with seven knockouts.
The rematch is expected to attract strong interest from Nigerian boxing fans as two familiar rivals meet once again, this time with a continental title on the line.
