Our PHCs are well managed, MOH tells councillors

Answering questions from the councillors over the state of the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) during their plenary last week, the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Ejigbo LCDA, Dr. Wale Agosu has confirmed that the PHCs are well managed and in good condition.

Agosu said the health workers have been discharging their duties accordingly even as they continue to combat coronavirus pandemic to prevent it from spreading in the community.

While explaining the health situation in Ejigbo LCDA to the councillors who summoned him for questioning during their plenary session, the MOH said despite the record of seven COVID-19 cases in the community, the PHCs have been taking care of other ailments, saying the COVID-19 cases have been handed over to the appropriate quarters for treatment.

He said: “The health situation in Ejigbo has been well managed. We attend to the residents who have any ailment that could be treated in our health centres.

“The seven cases of coronavirus recorded in our community have been well dealt with as the cases have been transferred to the appropriate quarters,” he explained.

Convinced by the MOH’s explanation, the Council Leader, Hon. Lanre Akinbowale, announced that the councillors would cancel their planned oversight visit to the PHCs.

His words: “When we invited the MOH, we asked him about the state of our PHCs and he said they are okay.

“We would have gone on oversight to all the PHCs but I aborted that plan because of the sensitivity of PHCs regarding to COVID-19. I didn’t want to expose the legislators to the danger of the virus.

“We asked the MOH on their challenges and he told us, at the end of the day, the House resolved and agreed to pass a resolution to the Executive Chairman on what to do so as to improve their effectiveness.”
