Oshodi-Isolo LG to devise new strategies on IGR

To make up for the revenue target set by the council authority for the 2019 fiscal year, the management of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area has decided to deplore new strategies to tackle the challenges of dwindling internally generated revenue (IGR) faced by the local government.

 

The Supervisory Councilor for Revenue and Market, Hon. Toyin Smith at a meeting last week charged the revenue officers to step up their operation in other to meet the target set by the Council Authority for the fiscal year of 2019.

In his words: “The issue of revenue generation is very germane to the government and all strategies must be deployed to ensure that this target is met.

“There are many developmental projects ongoing and many placed before the government to execute which need funds for implementation with IGR serving as a pivotal source of fund to make things happen.

 

“It is on the significance of this we must not fail the government and the communities in our obligation by ensuring that all pending revenue is collected and remitted into the government account.”

The Council Treasurer, Mrs. Nimota Oki also implored the revenue officers to remain focus, dedicated and loyal to the council authority in the discharge of their responsibility.

 

She disclosed that the local government was yet to realise its set target for the year in the area of IGR which if not achieved could pose danger to the financial engineering of the local government.

 

She said a lot could still be done within the limited time to the end of the year as she commended the revenue committee and the officers for pragmatic efforts displayed so far, saying much is still expect to be done.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Revenue Committee, Hon. Banjoko said all hope was not lost as the remaining days in the year could still be well utilised to change the narration.
