Omoyele Sowore Reportedly Attacked at 2025 Lagos City Marathon

Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters, was allegedly assaulted on Saturday morning during the Lagos City Marathon, sponsored by Access Bank.

It was gathered that the incident involved a group of men confronting Sowore and his team, as well as targeting journalists covering the event.

Reports indicate that cameras and other equipment belonging to Sowore’s crew and journalists were damaged in the attack.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 elections, later shared a video of the attack on popular microblogging platform X

Sowore known for his participation in international marathons often draws parallels between the endurance required for long-distance running and activism.

The Lagos City Marathon attracted thousands of local and international runners, featuring both 10km and 42.5km race categories.
