Odi-Olowo Sport Fiesta to take youths off the street – Honourable Ajala

The 1st edition of the Odi-Olowo Sport Fiesta will kick-off on the 27th of November with a street walk, which will start from the council premises, through Ilupeju bypass to Agege motor road and end at Anikulapo area office at Jibowu.

Speaking at the Press Conference organised for the sport fiesta, the chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Honourable Rasaq Ajala said the LCDA had a successful Talent Hunt last year despite the pandemic and decided to expand the sport segment into different sport categories this year to discover more talents in the grassroots.

Ajala noted that he is happy that the LCDA is bringing the best sportsmen and women in the LCDA to the fiesta, which over the years has been engaging and supporting the youths in sporting activities.

The Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye boss disclosed that his administration have been supporting school inter house sports competitions in all the schools in the LCDA since inception as the aim of the competition is to take the youths off the streets as he intends to correct the impression that success is only achieved within the four walls of the classroom or through formal education as he gave example of a boxer born and bred in Mushin named, Taiwo Agbaje (Esepo) who won a boxing title in Europe

Ajala stated that the Odi-Olowo Sport Fiesta will go across the LCDA, where males and females will be given the opportunity to participate in street soccer, Basketball, Boxing, Table Tennis, Draughts and cards games.

Ajala added, sport has an amazing power to transform lives, extraordinary ability to unite and bring out the best in humankind. He believes good sport can offer a parallel pathway to success as it helps people develop the skill set and the mindset valued by the society.

Ajala concluded that, the sport fiesta will harness the power of sport to build character and provide a truly holistic education among the youths.
