Residents of Ogudu have been thrown into mourning following the death of the community’s traditional ruler, Nojeemdeen Fashola.

Palace sources confirmed that the first-class monarch passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday at his residence in Ogudu.

While details surrounding his death were not made public, palace officials described his passing as peaceful, noting that the monarch “departed this world in peace.”

The news of his death has sparked an outpouring of grief across the ancient community in Kosofe, with residents, traditional chiefs and sympathisers paying tribute to a monarch many described as humble, accessible and deeply committed to the progress of his people.

In honour of the late monarch, some social and commercial activities within the community, including market operations, were reportedly scaled down in line with Yoruba tradition and customs.

Oba Fashola ascended the throne about four years ago and was widely regarded as a unifying figure who promoted peace, cultural values and community development during his reign.

Many residents also remembered him for his calm disposition, close relationship with the people and dedication to the welfare of Ogudu community.
