No facilities for basketball at grassroots – Coaches

Yinka and Osilo, both coaches of Laurel basketball club have lamented that there is no facilities for basketball at the grassroots, saying the situation has been hindering the growth of the game at the local level.

Laurel is known for training and nurturing basketball talents across Ejigbo, Jakande and Isolo axis.

In a chat with ECHONEWS at the club center in Jakande Estate, Ejigbo where many young promising lads are being trained to become the best in the game, the coaches complained about the lack of sponsorship, adding that basketball was not getting the needed attention at the grassroots unlike football.

They said they coached the young lads without charging them any fee as they were using it as an avenue to contribute to the growth of the game at the grassroots.

“We are just using our own little resources to train the young ones who have interest in the game. The government should strive to revive the game at the local level so that we can have more people playing basketball like football.”
