To tame the menace of drug abuse, Freedom Foundation in partnership with Drug Abuse Prevention Centre (DAPC) has sensitised residents in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) on how to prevent abuse of drugs and other substances.

The advocacy programme is in line with the new anti-drug use campaign launched by Freedom Foundation in conjunction with DAPC in January this year with the title “Substance Abuse and Life Skills Promotion Project” targeted at the youths in the community.

According to the project manager of Freedom Foundation, Mr. John Akinola, the project aims at creating awareness and providing information as well as resource dissemination to the in-school and out-of-school-aged youths on substance abuse to prevent early usage of drugs and other substances among them.

Akinola, who spoke to ECHONEWS about a sensitisation programme held for the youths in Isolo Townhall, explained that the participants were expected to pass the advocacy messages on to their contemporaries in the community.

He informed that caregivers and coalition of members of civil associations in the community will also be trained on how to complement other efforts against the menace and that the programme would be extended to other parts of the state.

The Chairman of Lagos State Barbers, Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association (LABHCA), Isolo chapter, Mr. Deji Adewunmi, lauded the organisers of the programme, promising that the messages would be passed to others.
