The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has praised the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Mr. Tunbosun Aruwe, for his exemplary leadership and strong commitment to public health and community development.

During a courtesy visit to the Chairman, a NAFDAC delegation led by Pharm. Chidi Uche, Pharmacovigilance Coordinator of the Lagos Office, highlighted that the agency’s mandate extends far beyond seizing counterfeit and harmful drugs. The focus, they said, is now on proactive awareness creation to combat drug abuse, misuse, and overdose, particularly among youths, pregnant women, and children.

The delegation noted that Mushin was selected for this special initiative because of the Chairman’s outstanding people-oriented programmes, which have earned the local government recognition from both national and international stakeholders.

The NAFDAC team expressed admiration Aruwe’s accessibility and hands-on approach.

“Unlike many public officials who are often unreachable, Chairman Aruwe is always available and deeply committed to initiatives that improve the lives of residents.”

The visit culminated in a formal partnership between NAFDAC and Mushin Local Government aimed at intensifying health awareness campaigns and delivering impactful community interventions to curb the menace of substance abuse.

As part of the collaboration, a major sensitization programme on drug abuse awareness and prevention has been scheduled for Wednesday, 17th June 2026.

Aruwe expressed gratitude to NAFDAC for the visit and the confidence reposed in his administration. He assured the agency of the council’s full support and readiness to work together in safeguarding public health.

“We will continue to back every initiative that protects the health and future of our people.

“Mushin Local Government is fully committed to this partnership for the benefit of all residents.”

The Chairman further pledged to mobilize Community Development Associations (CDAs), traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders to ensure the success of the health and developmental programmes in the area.
