Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment have visited the illegal dump site off Ôténaike Street, in Orioke area of Ejigbo LCDA.

They visited in response to complaints by the Private Sector Participation in Refuse Management company, Provident Refuse Solutions Company, which picks waste in Ifoshi area.

Sources at the company said it became necessary to invite the Lagos State Waste Management Authority and the Ministry of Environment because of the high rate at which truck pushers were taking refuse to the illegal dumpsite.

Echonews learnt that the dumpsite began as a place scavengers used to separate waste collected from other dumpsite before it was gradually turned to a big dumpsite.

Residents are unable to sleep most times due to burning of tyres and other harmful chemical substances at the dumpsite as the thick  smoke often took over the entire area.

Sources at the LAWMA – licensed company said the ministry promised to act on the matter immediately but the COVID-19 incident might be responsible for the delay.
