Man, 36, Arraigned Over Chiid Theft

The Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja is prosecuting a man identified as Aminu Shanaki over an alledged theft of a chiid.

Shanaki commited the offence on September 7, at Alagbado, Lagos, as mentioned by the police.

He is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing as imposed on him by the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspect pleaded not guilty.

Nevertheless, the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, maintained that the defendant commited the act at Kola Bus Stop in Alagbado.

Iberedem said that the defendant stole the child belonging to one Kausara Olaegbe – the complainant.

The prosecutor added that the suspect was caught by passers-by, who handed him over to the police.

According to Iberedem, the offences contravened Sections 275(1)(a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

He also informed that Section 275 stipulates 14 years jail term for child theft, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje who presided over the case granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Kubeinje said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till October 15.
