Local Government Worker On Trial Over Alleged Missing Documents

An officer at the Kosofe Local Government Secretariat in Lagos has been arraigned in court over an alleged theft of council documents.
The defendant, Ganiyu Oyebanjo, who designates as the Supervisor for Boundaries Matter at the Secretariat is facing trial on charges of conspiracy and stealing, imposed on him by the Police.
At the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Adebanjo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A bail application was filed by the defence counsel. However, Police Prosecutor, Zebedee Arekhandia, opposed, stating that the accused might abscond and further engage in criminal activities.
The court in it’s rulling granted bail to the suspect in the sum of ₦5,000,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that one of the surety must own a property in Lagos with title documents verified with evidence of three years tax payment.
In addition, the court also mandated the second surety to be a blood relative of the defendant, with also a proof of three years tax payment.
Furthermore, the court ordered verification of the sureties’ addresses and ruled that Oyebanjo would remain in custody until his bail conditions were met.
The case was adjourned till April 11.
