Lagos Targets Better Service Delivery Through Data-Driven Policies
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to evidence-based governance and measurable development outcomes aimed at improving the lives of residents across the state.
Speaking during the 2026 annual media briefing marking the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Oreoluwa Finnih, said the state was strengthening coordination among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) through integrated data systems.
According to Finnih, the data-driven approach has already started producing visible results, especially through Lagos State’s participation in the Human Capital Development (HCD) 2.0 Core Working Group.
She explained that the initiative is helping the government implement evidence-based interventions in critical sectors such as health, education and social development.
Finnih also highlighted the successful coordination of Lagos State’s second Voluntary Local Review (VLR), which brought together communities, stakeholders and development partners to assess progress on the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level.
She added that the SDGs office had also expanded awareness programmes through initiatives such as SDG clubs in primary schools and social impact cinema projects aimed at influencing positive behavioural change among young people.
The special adviser noted that Lagos State remained active in global sustainability discussions through participation in international forums including the United Nations General Assembly and other global development processes.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Central Business Districts (CBD) office disclosed that it arrested and prosecuted 859 offenders across the Lagos Island and Ikeja business districts as part of efforts to restore order, sanitation and compliance in major commercial areas.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Bola Olumegbon-Lawal, revealed this during the same briefing.
According to her, seven officials of the agency were also suspended during the review period over alleged misconduct and insubordination.
Olumegbon-Lawal said the agency had intensified environmental enforcement and restoration exercises across several commercial hubs, including Inner Marina, Broad Street, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dosumu, Ebute-Ero, Martins Street and Idumota.
