Two people have died, while a man and a woman sustained serious injuries after a Suzuki commercial bus collided with a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, which involved a Suzuki bus with registration number KTU 333 YF and a pickup van.
LASTMA operatives responded to the crash, coordinating rescue efforts, securing the scene and facilitating the evacuation of the victims.
During the operation, the bodies of the two deceased victims were evacuated and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), popularly known as SHEMU.
The two injured survivors were taken to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention and further treatment.
Following the rescue operation, LASTMA officials handed over the vehicles involved in the collision and the Suzuki bus driver to security personnel from the Yaba Police Division.
The police officers provided security at the scene and maintained order until the rescue and recovery operations were completed.
LASTMA said its response reflected the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency services, effective traffic management and collaboration with other agencies to protect lives on Lagos roads.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the loss of lives as deeply distressing. He also sympathised with their loved ones and wished the injured victims a speedy and full recovery.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to remain alert, obey traffic regulations and observe prescribed speed limits to prevent road crashes.
“Responsible driving, sustained concentration and the judicious exercise of caution remain indispensable to the prevention of avoidable road traffic collisions and their devastating consequences,” he warned.
LASTMA also advised motorists to maintain safe distances between vehicles, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling.
The authority called on all road users to prioritise safety and respect human life while travelling across Lagos State.
