The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has commenced the construction process for the Lagos Island Micro Waterworks, in another significant step towards strengthening water infrastructure and improving access to reliable potable water in Lagos Island and its environs.

The project, initiated under the administration of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, underscores the State Government’s continued commitment to developing critical water infrastructure and improving service delivery to Lagosians.

It also reflects the purposeful leadership of the Managing Director, Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, whose administration has continued to drive infrastructure renewal and initiatives aimed at enhancing the Corporation’s capacity to provide sustainable water services.

This was disclosed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the kick-off meeting for the project held at the Corporation’s Headquarters Boardroom, Ijora, Lagos.

Addressing the contractor, Hydro Source Consult & Sons Ltd., and relevant LWC officials, Engr. Tijani emphasised the importance of the project and charged all stakeholders to give the contractor maximum cooperation to ensure quality and timely delivery.

“Everybody should support the contractor towards delivering the project with the best quality and within the perfect timing. I want everyone to behave themselves, comport yourselves properly and give the contractor 100 percent support to deliver this project,” he stated.

The Managing Director further stressed that the project must receive the necessary institutional support and visibility, urging all departments to provide the contractor with a conducive environment to execute the work effectively.

In her remarks, the Executive Director, Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo, charged stakeholders to ensure completion within the approved eight-month duration, targeting March 2027 or latest April 2027. She emphasised professionalism, judicious use of resources and strict adherence to quality standards.

The Director of Production, Engr. Mustapha Agiri, described the initiative as a new undertaking for the department, assuring that its success would be a collective achievement, while the Director of Distribution, Engr. Bolaji Ogunlewe, pledged his department’s full support to the contractor.

Presenting the Programme of Work, the Executive Director of HydroSource Consult & Sons Ltd., Engr. Wale Giwa, assured the Corporation that quality would not be compromised. He also outlined the contractor’s technical approach, including geophysical analysis, and stressed the importance of stakeholder collaboration.

The Lagos Island Micro Waterworks Project, awarded to HydroSource Consult & Sons Ltd. under Contract No. LWC/W/NS/002B/2026, followed the completion of the procurement process in line with the guidelines of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.

The project forms part of LWC’s broader infrastructure renewal drive aimed at strengthening operational capacity and improving the availability and accessibility of potable water to residents.
