Lagos Deepens Security Collaboration as Trust Fund Equips Police Unit
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has donated a brand new operational vehicle to the Nigeria Police Force’s newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit in Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations across the state.
The donation was made during a visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the LSSTF, where he was received by the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ayo Ogunsan.
The gesture underscores the Fund’s continued commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies with critical resources needed to enhance public safety.
Dr Ogunsan noted that the vehicle donation aligns with the LSSTF’s longstanding role in providing operational support to security agencies, including patrol vehicles and surveillance infrastructure. He added that Lagos remains at the forefront of supporting innovative policing initiatives.
During the visit, both parties exchanged souvenirs, symbolising the strong partnership between the LSSTF, security agencies, and other stakeholders in safeguarding the state.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police commended the LSSTF for its sustained contributions to security operations, describing it as a model that has been replicated in other parts of the country.
He highlighted the impact of the Fund’s support on police operations, noting that access to vehicles, armoured carriers, and aerial surveillance had significantly improved efficiency in crime prevention and response.
The IGP also appealed for continued assistance to the Lagos State Police Command, stressing the importance of equipping personnel to manage the increasing security demands of the state.
“With adequate support, including operational vehicles and aerial surveillance, policing becomes more effective,” he said.
In his remarks, Dr Ogunsan called for increased funding and stakeholder support for the Trust Fund, warning that donor fatigue could affect its ability to sustain its interventions.
Also speaking, a board member of the LSSTF, Mr Ayo Otuyalo, reaffirmed the private sector’s commitment to supporting security initiatives, emphasising the importance of strong leadership within the police force.
The event further highlighted the need for sustained collaboration between government, private sector players, and security agencies to maintain and improve safety across Lagos State.
