The Medical Director/CEO of Isolo General Hospital, Dr. Godwin Akhabhoa has assured the general public that the hospital is ready to execute the health programme announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-oOlu.

Governor Sanwo-Olu recently announced that the administration will pick the bill of pregnant mothers, emergency cases and surgeries at public hospitals this month.

Appraising the readiness of the hospital, Dr. Akhaboa said: “In fact, we have the capacity to start it, but it is strictly for emergency cases. Government knows that at this time some people may have emergency cases for which they might not have the funds to take care of. This makes the scheme a laudable project. It is a demonstration of the fact that the Lagos State Government thinks well of its people, even in this trying times.”

He said the government has extended one of the core programmes of the hospital.

“What government is trying to do now is only an extension of what it has been doing before. This scheme will greatly help the people in need and our responsibility is to make sure that we carry out government directive.”

Dr. Akhabhoa disclosed that the hospital could carry out about 100 Caesarian Sections and 150 to 200 deliveries within one month of the scheme.

He said: “If I am to do a projection, normally we have close to 100 caesarian section deliveries, here is well over 150 to 200 every month. For surgery, we have quite a large number.”

On the need for government to create a quarantine centre in the hospital to cater for the people of Oshodi-Isolo and its environs, Dr. Akhabhoa said: “Well, let me put it to you that if it is not broken, we don’t try to mend it. Isolo General Hospital was chosen among the five General Hospitals for the management of COVID-19. Gbagada is one of the hospitals and it is being effectively put to use to contain the pandemic in Lagos State.

“It is only when they feel that Gbagada is filled up that they will push the spill over to Oshodi-Isolo. But take note that it is not about local government. If all centres are in Ikeja, we will be able to move every patient there. If all centres are in Mainland, the government can take care of them irrespective of where they are. The allocation of the centres is not being done by political consideration.”
