Community service does not end with giving people food, organising a medical outreach or donating materials. Behind every successful humanitarian project is a team that must know how to work together, evaluate its performance and find better ways of reaching the people it serves.

That was the focus as the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club held a Club Quality Initiative (CQI) workshop aimed at strengthening its leadership and improving the way members participate in community service.

The capacity-building session was held at the Oshodi Art Gallery, where members of the club examined their internal operations and discussed ways to make their service programmes more effective.

The workshop was facilitated by Lion Oluwole Ajidaun, who stressed the importance of continuous evaluation and improvement in keeping a service organisation effective and responsive.

According to him, the CQI process gives members the opportunity to identify areas where the club needs to improve, strengthen teamwork and develop better approaches to delivering its programmes.

He also emphasised that active participation by members and proper coordination among the leadership are essential if the club’s projects are to create meaningful impact in the community.

The latest workshop is coming at a time when the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club has been involved in several community-focused activities.

In July, the club organised photography training for 52 Information Technology students at the Oshodi Art Gallery as part of its youth skills development efforts.

The club has also carried out free medical screening for residents of Imota and, in August, marked World Humanitarian Day by providing food support to more than 50 mechanics in Ikorodu. It also organised a waste-basket evacuation project aimed at improving environmental cleanliness in the community.

The club’s focus on developing its own members therefore comes alongside its wider efforts to serve residents and empower young people.

The CQI workshop was attended by the Club President, Lion Nuga Femi; First Vice President, Lion Oshomoji Oluwadamilare; Immediate Past President, Lion Oshodi Seyi Paul; Treasurer, Lion Ganiyat Oshodi; Service Chairperson, Lion Aluko Kayode; and Secretary, Lion Sanusi Aminat.

Mrs Abiru Abolore attended the programme as an observer.

The session ended with renewed emphasis on teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement and effective service delivery.

For the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club, the message was clear: the quality of service delivered to the community depends heavily on the strength, coordination and preparedness of the people behind it.
