The  Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental sanitation and public health, urging residents to adopt responsible waste disposal practices to sustain a cleaner and healthier environment.

Hamzat stressed that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and appealed to residents to support government initiatives aimed at keeping Ifako-Ijaiye safe, healthy and environmentally sustainable.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental awareness, the council has intensified its campaign against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, calling on residents, traders and business owners to embrace proper waste management practices.

According to the Environmental Health Services Department, indiscriminate disposal of waste contributes to environmental degradation, blocks drainage channels, increases the risk of flooding and promotes the spread of communicable diseases.

Residents were advised to properly bag their refuse and dispose of it through approved waste collection channels in order to protect public health and preserve the environment.

The local government also called on community leaders, market associations and residents’ groups to collaborate with the council in sensitising people against illegal refuse dumping and encouraging compliance with environmental regulations.

Hamzat expressed optimism that with collective commitment and adherence to sanitation guidelines, Ifako-Ijaiye would continue to build a cleaner environment and secure a healthier future for both present and future generations.
