Court Remands Men For Alleged N964,000 Fraud

The Surulere Magistates’ Court has held one Precious Eric on trial for allegely swindling to the tune of N964,000 under the guise of swapping three phones.

26-year-old Eric, was arrainged at the court on a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant, on February 5, obtained the sum of money from three complainants : Karlex-Elekwua, Zakariyvah Hafsah and Seyi Okewunmi for phone exchange but converted their money to his personal use.

Ekhueorohan said the offences contravened Sections 287and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr Ganiyu Tiamiyu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must have their addresses verified by the court and adjourned the matter until April 4, for mention.

Elsewhere at Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba, one John Ukoh, 60, was arrainged for allegedly stealing three cars valued at N9.8m.

Ukoh was arrainged before Magistate Olatunde Adefope on a one-count charge of stealing.

Haruna Magaji, the Prosecutor, revealed to the court that the reported offences occurred in November 2022. He said, “In November 2022, on Stella Sholanke Street, Ajao Estate, Lagos, the defendant fraudulently converted a 2006 Toyota Sienna car, a 2007 Toyota Corolla car, and a 2006 Toyota Camry car, all valued at N9.8m, belonging to one Mrs Folake Brown to his own without her consent.

“The offences contravene Sections 280(1)(a) and 314(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015”

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Adefope granted him bail of N1m with two sureties.

The case was adjourned to April 19, 2024.
