Commuters Groan Over Bad Roads

Residents, commuters, and business owners have complained bitterly about the dilapidated state of the roads in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government area, appealing to the government for a quick solution.

Roads such as Second and Forth Avenue have been in bad shape for over a year and have been difficult to ply in recent times.

Other bad roads include the Seventh Avenue axis leading to Alakija within Roads 51, 52, and 53  from Rockview as well as the road linking Temple Hill.

Due to the state of the roads, drivers have resorted to driving against traffic.

Though Second Avenue was revamped sometime ago, the residents complained that it became dilapidated less than six months after, stating that it gets worse.

One of the residents bitterly complained that he had to change the shock absorber of his car twice in six months.

Another person lamented that while plying the road, his front car bumper was removed causing him to spend unplanned expenses.

A student, Jennifer Agu, who lives on 21 Road, C Close finds it difficult to get public transport as most tricycles, busses, and motorcycles stopped passing the bad axis.

A roadside yam seller, Mustapha complained that his business has been affected.

He said: “Most of our customers have stopped coming to buy from us. It is worse when it rains. I pray the government remembers us and fix the roads.”

The long stretch of the popular road is currently known for traffic congestion from Okota-Ago to Apple Junction, and parts of Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, through the Second Rainbow, channeling them to the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway, via Alakija Festac third Gate.

Meanwhile, the council management has promised that work will soon commence on the raid, noting that there is an agreement among the state and the local governments with the support of the member of the House of Assembly to fix the road.
