Commonwealth Games 2026: Tobi Amusan Powers Into 100m Hurdles Final With Commanding Heat Win

Nigeria’s premier athletics star Tobi Amusan stands just one race away from making Commonwealth Games history after storming into the women’s 100m hurdles final with a commanding victory in her opening heat on Thursday morning.
The world-record holder looked in complete control as she clocked 12.19 seconds to win comfortably ahead of South Africa’s Marione Fourie (12.50) and Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill (12.69). The performance secured automatic qualification for tonight’s final, scheduled for 9:49 p.m. BST at Scotstoun Stadium.
Running with a strong +3.8 m/s tailwind, Amusan cleared each hurdle with her trademark precision and coasted across the line.
Tonight, Amusan will chase an unprecedented third successive Commonwealth Games title in the women’s 100m hurdles. She claimed gold on the Gold Coast in 2018 and successfully defended her crown in Birmingham in 2022. No Nigerian athlete has ever achieved such sustained dominance in the event.
The 28-year-old has already rewritten the record books. In 2022 she became Nigeria’s first World Athletics champion, setting the still-standing world record of 12.12 seconds in Eugene, Oregon. Since then she has collected Diamond League titles, African championships and cemented her status as Africa’s greatest female hurdler.
Amusan arrived in Glasgow in strong form following another impressive Diamond League season, and her composed heat performance peaked precisely at the right moment.
Team Nigeria has already clinched 14 medals, seven gold, five silver and two bronze across para powerlifting, weightlifting, athletics and para athletics.
