‘Church Should Focus on Worship’ — Baba Ijesha’s Appearance Sparks Reactions

A recent appearance by actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, at a church programme has triggered mixed reactions online, with social media users divided over his participation and performance.

The actor appeared in a video circulating on social media performing during the church programme, prompting a debate over whether his presence should be viewed as an opportunity for redemption or questioned in light of controversies surrounding him.

While some users defended his appearance and argued that people should be given opportunities for a second chance, others maintained that his past should not be overlooked simply because he appeared in a religious setting.

One social media user, @adebukola_x, wrote: “People deserve a second chance. If church can’t welcome people, then where else should they go?”

But @Tifeh_01 took a different position, saying: “The issue isn’t him being in church. The issue is people acting like history never happened.”

Another user, @IamMorenikeji, defended the actor’s participation, writing: “Baba Ijesha was simply invited to perform. Some of you are taking it too far.”

@TheOnlyKenny_ questioned the appropriateness of the appearance, saying: “Church should focus on worship, not celebrity appearances.”

Meanwhile, @oluwaseun___ argued that the actor continued to have public support, writing: “Whether you like him or not, the man still has supporters.”

The conflicting reactions have turned the video into another social media debate over redemption, accountability, forgiveness and the role of public figures in religious spaces.

While some users see the appearance as evidence that people can seek a new beginning despite past controversies, others believe forgiveness should not erase accountability or public memory.
