BREAKING: Building Collapse Kills One In Fadeyi
Kehinde Adeleye
One person has been confirmed dead, while several others are feared trapped beneath the rubble of a two-storey building under construction that collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State on Friday.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the building collapsed in the early hours of Friday, prompting an emergency response and search and rescue operations to determine whether more people remained trapped beneath the debris.
He said LASEMA received a distress call at 12:10 a.m., leading to the immediate activation of its Cobra Response Team from the agency’s Onipanu Base.
The team arrived at the scene at 12:12 a.m. and discovered that the two-storey structure, which was still under construction, had collapsed.
Preliminary observations suggested that construction workers might have been trapped beneath the wreckage, prompting emergency responders to begin efforts to locate and evacuate possible victims.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the rescue team commenced operations while putting safety measures in place to protect both the victims and emergency personnel at the scene.
The agency was also working to establish whether additional people remained trapped beneath the rubble as the rescue operation continued.
The circumstances surrounding the collapse were not immediately disclosed.
