APC Persons with Disabilities Endorse Bamigbetan for House of Representatives

Leaders of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency II, have endorsed frontline House of Representatives aspirant, Kehinde Bamigbetan, ahead of the party primaries.

The endorsement came during an interactive session held recently at the APC Secretariat in Isolo. The meeting was coordinated by Temitope Agbabiaka, representative of PWDs in the Isolo Local Council Development Area chapter of the APC, and Rose Uti, his counterpart in Ejigbo LCDA.

Addressing ward executive members representing PWDs, as well as cluster heads of the blind, deaf and albino communities, Bamigbetan commended the Lagos State Government for promoting inclusion through the establishment of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA).

He recalled his service under the administration of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, which established the N500 million Disability Fund, describing it as a major milestone in disability inclusion.

Bamigbetan pledged to deepen support for PWDs through the launch of a dedicated transportation scheme, beginning with the provision of one bus each for Isolo and Ejigbo council areas to ease mobility challenges faced by persons with disabilities.

He also promised to attract local and international grants to support empowerment initiatives for the PWD community.

On education, Bamigbetan opposed the idea of segregated schools for persons with disabilities, arguing that such a system could reinforce social exclusion and hinder integration.

“Persons with disabilities are integral members of our communities and should not be separated. What is needed is inclusive social, economic and infrastructural development that promotes mutual understanding and equal participation,” he said.

The aspirant further pledged to engage relevant federal institutions to ensure PWDs have access to available opportunities, resources and facilities for personal and professional development.
He assured the community that, if elected, he would establish a dedicated PWD Affairs Desk at his constituency office to address their concerns directly.

Bamigbetan also traced his longstanding commitment to disability advocacy to his time as Chief Press Secretary to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State.

He noted that the Tinubu administration laid the foundation for disability inclusion in Lagos, which successive governments have built upon through the establishment of LASODA and accessibility-focused infrastructure projects.

He urged members of the PWD community to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and mobilise support for candidates committed to advancing their cause.

Bamigbetan also pledged to push for the enforcement of the five per cent employment quota for persons with disabilities in the public service through sustained engagement with relevant authorities.

Reaffirming his accessibility and sincerity, he promised regular consultations and separate engagement programmes specifically tailored to the needs of the PWD community.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Chairman of PWDs in Constituency II, Hon. Temitope Agbabiaka, commended Bamigbetan for what he described as his patience, sincerity and genuine concern for their welfare.

Agbabiaka expressed confidence in the aspirant’s pledges and assured him of the support of the PWD community.
