Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the state, alongside Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as his running mate.

The governor made the announcement in a post on his verified X handle on Thursday, describing the duo as a team capable of sustaining and advancing Lagos State’s development trajectory.

Sanwo-Olu said the choice of candidates reflects the administration’s commitment to continuity, competence, and inclusive governance.

“The true test of sustainable governance is the ability to pass the baton to proven hands, guided by minds that see the future clearly,” he said.

He added that the ticket represents “the strength, diversity, and future” of Lagos State, while commending Hamzat’s contributions to the current administration.

“Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has proven himself to be a dedicated public servant, a dependable partner in governance and a steadfast advocate for progress,” the governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu also praised Sonayon-James, describing her as a respected leader with experience in sustainability and grassroots development.

“Joining him as his running mate is Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, a respected leader, sustainability professional, and grassroots champion whose commitment reflects the aspirations of many Lagosians,” he said.

According to him, the pair possesses the experience and capacity required to build on the achievements of the present administration and take Lagos further.

He urged party members, stakeholders, and residents of the state to support the ticket ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

“I invite party faithful, stakeholders, and all Lagosians to support this team as we continue our shared mission of building a Greater Lagos,” he added.

Recall that Hamzat emerged as the APC governorship candidate after securing 657,917 votes out of 657,974 accredited votes during the party’s primary held at the APC secretariat in Ogba on May 21.
