‘Alahun: The Weaver’ Set to Bring Yoruba Fantasy to Nigerian Cinemas

Nollywood is set for another major cinematic release as Alahun: The Weaver, a Yoruba fantasy-adventure film produced by Kayode Kasum and directed by Dare Olaitan, prepares to hit cinemas across Nigeria on August 21, 2026.

The film marks Olaitan’s first directorial outing since Ile Owo in 2022 and takes audiences into a world deeply rooted in Yoruba culture, tradition and mythology.

Alahun: The Weaver follows a young man who is ridiculed by members of his community because of his passion for weaving baskets and plaiting hair, crafts considered unsuitable for men in his society.

Rather than abandon his identity or conform to societal expectations, the young man remains committed to his craft. His journey, however, takes an unexpected turn when he becomes drawn into a mystical adventure that could determine the fate of his entire kingdom.

At the heart of the story is a clash between individuality, tradition and destiny, with the film exploring questions around identity, craftsmanship, cultural expectations and the importance of embracing one’s gifts.

Rooted in Yoruba history and tradition, the film also places significant emphasis on African craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Its period setting, elaborate costumes and fantasy elements combine to create a visually rich world that seeks to bring the depth of Yoruba storytelling to the big screen.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast led by Odunlade Adekola, alongside Ibrahim Chatta, Lateef Adedimeji, Moshood Fattah, Kunle Remi, Tomi Ojo, Omowunmi Dada, Faithia Williams, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Tope Tedela and veteran actor Peter Fatomilola.

With a cast spanning some of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces and a storyline combining fantasy, adventure and Yoruba cultural heritage, Alahun: The Weaver is positioning itself as one of the more intriguing Nigerian films scheduled for release this month.

The film is expected to appeal to audiences interested in culturally grounded Nigerian stories while offering the spectacle and adventure associated with fantasy cinema.

Produced by Kayode Kasum and directed by Dare Olaitan, Alahun: The Weaver arrives in Nigerian cinemas on Friday, August 21, 2026.
