Osimhen has only netted once in the 2023 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) which came in the Super Eagles 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea.

Simon said he was elated with the win against Angola while laying emphasis on the victory and winning the player of the match award which he believes could be given to any player even if the recipient losses a game.

He however came in defense of Nigeria striker, Osimhen for not finding the back of the net in four matches.

“I’m very happy but the most important thing is that we won,” Simon told reporters in the post match press conference.

“You can be man of the match and your team loses the game.

“The atmosphere is good in the team. Osimhen is thinking about winning, not just scoring.

“If he gets a chance to score he will take it, but he’s focused on the team victory first.”
