Lagos Warns Public Against Fake Traffic Fine Messages, Malicious Links

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has issued an advisory stern warning to the public to be careful of fraudulent messages and malicious links spreading across social media of false pretence of people who have committed traffic offences.

According to the Ministry, these messages are designed to trick motorists into clicking unverified links, sharing personal details or making payments on unofficial platforms.

Officials however said the goal of the fraudsters is to steal sensitive personal and banking information of the public who unknowingly click on the fake websites.

“The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation advises the public to beware of fraudulent text messages and malicious links claiming recipients have committed traffic offences,” the Ministry warned.

Members of the public were urged not to click on any unverified links, disclose personal information or make payments through third-party platforms.

The Ministry also cautioned that many of the fraudulent platforms try to lure motorists with promises of discounted fines.

It clarified that Lagos State does not offer discounts on traffic penalties on any of its platforms, stressing that all official statutory fines are fixed.

To verify genuine traffic tickets or check vehicle status, the public has been directed to use only the official portals: payvis.ng or tms.lagosstate.gov.ng.
