Nollywood’s Black Market Targets 50,000-Person Screening Record in Lagos

Nollywood is set to take a major shot at the Guinness World Record as the film Black Market targets a 50,000-person screening at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on September 26, 2026.
The organisers are seeking to surpass the existing record of 43,000 attendees for the largest single-location film screening, turning the planned event into one of the biggest public cinema gatherings in Nigeria.
Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and co-written with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, Black Market features popular Nollywood actors including Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez and Uzor Arukwe.
The record attempt is being produced by Signet Ring Studios, Switch Visuals Production and Filmone Studios, in partnership with corporate sponsors and the Lagos State Ministry of Culture.
The choice of Tafawa Balewa Square is expected to provide the large open space required for the ambitious screening, with organisers hoping to draw thousands of film lovers from Lagos and beyond.
If successful, the attempt would place a major Nigerian film event on the global record map while showcasing Nollywood’s growing capacity to mobilise large audiences around local cinema.
The September 26 event is therefore expected to combine entertainment, cinema and a record breaking attempt as organisers seek to make Black Market a landmark moment for Nigeria’s film industry.
