About the Role
The IT Intern will work with the British Council’s IT team to support the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of ICT infrastructure across its Nigeria offices.
The role holder will support the ICT Officer and Country ICT Manager in providing efficient technology services to staff and ensuring that the organisation’s systems, networks and infrastructure operate effectively.
The internship also provides an opportunity to learn IT processes, gain experience in vendor management and contribute to local technology projects while working alongside experienced IT professionals.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Provide first- and second-level IT support to staff.
- Assist with routine IT administration and operational activities.
- Escalate technical problems to the appropriate teams and follow up on their resolution.
- Support the implementation of local ICT projects.
- Assist with the administration, implementation and upgrading of hardware, software and ICT infrastructure.
- Support the availability and reliability of LAN and internet connectivity.
- Monitor server logs, services, performance and disk space and take appropriate corrective action.
- Support IT security measures against external threats, including malware and unauthorised access.
- Help ensure the physical security of IT equipment and restricted access to server rooms.
- Carry out scheduled weekly, monthly and quarterly IT checklist activities.
- Assist with approved system updates and upgrades.
- Support the correct installation of approved software.
- Identify opportunities to improve business processes through technology.
- Maintain software and hardware IT inventories.
- Support the management of the organisation’s Wi-Fi network.
- Learn and support IT vendor-management processes.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Graduate-level education or a second degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- At least two years of relevant work experience after NYSC.
- Knowledge of hardware and software support.
- Understanding of basic networking principles.
- Knowledge of service desk support.
- Familiarity with operating systems.
- An interest in ICT operations and technology.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
