Aroyewun Celebrates 107 LASU Graduates, Honours 5 First-Class Scholars

LAGOS — The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has celebrated 107 graduates of Lagos State University (LASU) who are indigenes and residents of the council, turning their graduation into a community-wide celebration of academic achievement.
The graduates were honoured following LASU’s convocation ceremony held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Among them were 10 Master’s degree holders and five First-Class graduates, a result the council described as a reflection of the growing culture of academic excellence among young people in Igbogbo/Baiyeku.
But for the families involved, the celebration was about more than certificates. It was about years of school fees, sacrifices, sleepless nights, encouragement and the relief of finally watching a child walk across the graduation stage.
Council Provides Transportation for Graduates and Families
In what the council described as a first-of-its-kind gesture, Chairman Aroyewun provided buses and vehicles to transport the graduands, their parents, friends and family members to the convocation venue and back home.
The gesture was aimed at easing the transportation burden associated with attending the ceremony and ensuring that families could be physically present to share the important moment with their loved ones.
For many parents, graduation is one of those occasions where being present matters just as much as the certificate itself.
Aroyewun said the young graduates deserved to be celebrated because their achievement represented not only personal success but also hope for the future of the community.
“These young graduates are the pride and future of Igbogbo/Baiyeku, and it is only right that we stand with them and their families on such a landmark day,” he said.
Chairman’s Wife Joins the Celebration
Representing the Chairman at the convocation, his wife, Mrs. Silifat Aroyewun, joined the graduates and their families in celebrating the milestone.
She interacted with the graduands, congratulated them individually and took photographs with them as the council’s delegation shared in the excitement of the occasion.
For her, the event went beyond the presentation of university certificates.
“Today is not just about certificates. It is about the resilience and excellence that our sons and daughters have shown, and we celebrate every one of you as our own,” she said.
Her remarks captured the wider significance of the celebration—the recognition of young people who had successfully navigated the demands of university education and emerged with qualifications that could shape their next chapter.
Five First-Class Graduates, Ten Master’s Holders
The academic results added another layer of pride to the celebration.
Five of the 107 graduates finished with First-Class degrees, while another 10 obtained Master’s degrees, highlighting the diversity and depth of academic achievement within the group.
The Special Adviser on Student Affairs, Hon. Abdulsalam Tijani, commended the graduates for their accomplishments, particularly the First-Class scholars and Master’s degree holders.
He also praised the Aroyewun administration for translating its support for education and youth development into a practical gesture that directly touched the lives of residents.
A Community Celebrates Its Own
Other officials present included Hon. Saidat Adeoba Odeyemi, Councillor representing Ward C5; Hon. Aliu Hassan, Special Adviser on Infrastructure; and Mr. Henry Ikuesan, Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, among others.
The atmosphere provided an opportunity for parents and families to celebrate alongside the graduates, turning what could have been an individual academic achievement into a collective community moment.
The families expressed appreciation to the council chairman for the transportation arrangements, reception and other tokens provided to the graduates.
For them, the support was not simply about getting to and from the convocation venue. It was a sign that their community recognised the effort behind their children’s achievement.
Education as an Investment in the Future
The celebration also fits into the education and youth-development focus of Aroyewun’s GLORY Agenda, which places emphasis on education, empowerment, youth development and inclusive governance.
The council’s recognition of the graduates sends a message that academic achievement should not go unnoticed, particularly at the grassroots where young people’s successes can inspire others to pursue education and personal development.
The 107 graduates now move into different stages of their lives, armed with degrees, experiences and ambitions shaped by their years at LASU.
For Igbogbo/Baiyeku, however, their success represents something bigger.
It is 107 reasons for families to celebrate, 107 stories of perseverance, and 107 reminders that when young people are supported to succeed, the entire community has something to be proud of.
Congratulations to all 107 LASU graduates of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, with special recognition for the 10 Master’s graduates and five First-Class scholars.
