Lagos Island East Montessori Pupils Gain Real-World Insights During Excursion To LCDA Secretariat

Pupils of Lagos Island East Montessori Nursery and Primary Schools recently embarked on an educational excursion to the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LIELCDA) Secretariat, where they experienced firsthand the practical applications of their classroom lessons.
In a statement, the Chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA, Mr. Muibi Folawiyo, underscored the value of such outings.
“Learning goes beyond the four walls of the classroom. Excursions are special times when books are packed up and pupils step out for real world experiences that bring lessons to life,” he said.
The pupils visited the LIELCDA Secretariat at 64 Freeman Street. Although the Chairman was unavoidably absent due to an official assignment outside the council, the students were warmly received and guided by senior officials including the Council Manager, Mr. Johnson-Agiri, Alhaji Habeeb Abass, Mr. Oshodi (Head of Department, Education), and Mr. Kolawole Ope (Special Adviser on Education).
During the tour, the pupils were taken round the new LIELCDA Secretariat complex. A highlight of the visit was their tour of the R.F. Balogun Legislative Building, where the LIELCDA Legislature holds its sessions. The students had the unique opportunity to observe and interact with the 10 LIELCDA Ward Councillors while they were in session.
Folawiyo noted the educational impact of the visit, which will deepen their understanding of complex and curiosity issues.
“observed, explored and engaged directly with what they study in class. This hands-on approach deepens their understanding, sparks curiosity and makes learning memorable.”
He added that excursions like this are designed to connect theory with practice.
“The excursion experience helps build confidence and inspire pupils to see education as both practical and exciting.”
