The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced bye-elections in three electoral wards across the state to fill vacancies created by the untimely deaths of newly elected councillors shortly after their inauguration.

In a notice signed by the Commission Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiola-Ighile (RTD), LASIEC stated that the polls will be conducted in compliance with Section 13(3) of the LASIEC Law 2008 (as amended) and Section 28(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Ward H, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA (Kayode/Fadeyi area), Ward C, Orimedu I, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Ward F, Bajulaye, Shomolu Local Government.

The bye-election in Ward H became necessary following the death of Councillor Zainab Shotayo, who represented the ward. She reportedly passed away on Monday after a brief illness.

LASIEC has fixed Tuesday, June 23, 2026, as the date for the bye-elections across all polling units in the three wards.

Registered political parties are required to collect nomination forms for their candidates at the LASIEC headquarters as preparations for the exercise begin.

Ward H (C3) in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA consists of 50 polling units within the Kayode/Fadeyi axis. The Commission has urged all stakeholders, residents, and voters in the affected areas to participate peacefully and adhere strictly to electoral guidelines.
