LASU Mourns Student Killed Following Iba Armed Robbery Incident
The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the death of one of its students, Otabor Boluwatife Joseph, following injuries he sustained during an armed robbery attack in the Iba area of Lagos.
Otabor, a student of the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, reportedly passed away after battling injuries suffered during the incident.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mr. Olaniyi Jeariogbe, the university expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues.
According to the statement, the attack occurred off-campus on Friday, May 29, 2026, when Otabor and some of his friends were reportedly attacked by armed robbers in the Iba area.
LASU disclosed that upon receiving reports of the incident, the institution, through the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, immediately intervened by providing support, informing the Vice-Chancellor, and maintaining communication with medical personnel involved in his treatment.
The university said it closely monitored his condition throughout his hospitalization but sadly received news of his death on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Following his passing, representatives of the institution engaged with his family, officials of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and relevant law enforcement agencies.
LASU further stated that it is collaborating with security authorities to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
The university prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and for strength for his family and loved ones during the difficult period.
