The Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere on Thursday admitted in evidence the written statement and interrogation video of Benjamin Nnayereugo, popularly known as “Killaboi,” in the ongoing trial over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe.

Killaboi is facing prosecution for the alleged killing of the 21-year-old at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, in July 2023.

During Thursday’s proceedings, an investigating police officer from the State Criminal Investigation Department, DSP Oderinde Gafar, testified before Justice Ibironke Harrison on how the defendant was arrested and extradited back to Nigeria.

According to the officer, Killaboi was arrested in Qatar through international collaboration involving relevant security agencies before being returned to Nigeria to stand trial.

“The defendant was arrested in Qatar through collaboration with relevant security agencies and subsequently extradited to Nigeria to face trial,” Gafar told the court.

He further stated that the defendant voluntarily wrote his statement during interrogation.

“The defendant wrote his statement himself during the investigation,” he added.

The prosecution, led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Adedayo Haroun, tendered the written statement and the video recording of the interrogation process, both of which were admitted in evidence without objection from the defence team.

The court also played the video recording in open court.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel, Marcel Oru (SAN), the police witness was questioned on the circumstances surrounding the statement before he was later discharged.

The prosecution informed the court that it had concluded the testimonies of the investigating officer and the deceased’s mother, Mrs Cordelia Onuwabhagbe, with one more witness left before closing its case.

Justice Harrison subsequently adjourned the matter to June 17 and 18, 2026, for continuation of trial.

The case has continued to attract public attention following emotional testimony earlier given by Augusta’s mother, who described Killaboi as someone she once considered “like a son” before her daughter’s death.

Killaboi was declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force in October 2023 after allegedly fleeing Nigeria following the incident.

He was later arrested in Qatar in February 2025 after reportedly evading authorities across multiple countries using forged identities before being extradited to Nigeria in April 2025.

He pleaded not guilty to charges bordering on alleged murder and indecent interference with the victim’s corpse during his arraignment in November 2025.
