The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has called for stronger grassroots participation in the Lagos State Government’s health insurance programmes, insisting that affordable and quality healthcare should not be limited to a privileged few.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement on the Ilera Eko and Ilera Ibile schemes, Johnson said access to healthcare remains a basic right that must be extended to every resident regardless of economic status.

He explained that the health insurance initiatives introduced by the Lagos State Government were designed to reduce the burden of medical expenses on families while improving access to healthcare services at the community level.

According to him, a healthy population is essential for productivity, economic growth and sustainable development, adding that local governments must continue to support programmes that directly improve the wellbeing of residents.

The council chairman urged traditional rulers, market leaders, youth groups, community development associations and other stakeholders to support awareness campaigns by educating residents on the importance and benefits of enrolling in the schemes.

Johnson also reaffirmed the commitment of Alimosho Local Government to collaborating with relevant health agencies to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve healthcare awareness across the council area.

“Together, let us build a healthier Alimosho, because when our people are healthy, our communities thrive,” he said.

The engagement programme was attended by representatives of the Lagos State Health Management Agency, healthcare professionals, community leaders and residents, who also stressed the need for inclusive healthcare coverage at the grassroots.
