The Lagos State Task Force, in collaboration with the Lagos State Mobile Court, has impounded eight vehicles for various traffic violations across Ikorodu and its environs.

Echonews reports that the enforcement exercise was carried out in response to growing disregard for traffic regulations, particularly the menace of one-way driving in the area.

Officials disclosed that the operation combined strict enforcement with on-the-spot prosecution of offenders as part of ongoing efforts to curb reckless driving and enhance road safety across Lagos State.

The agency noted that the initiative was also prompted by increasing concerns from residents over the safety of pedestrians, schoolchildren, passengers, and other road users.

According to the Task Force, the exercise forms part of its routine operations but aligns with broader strategies to eliminate risks posed by traffic offenders who flout established laws.

Speaking on the development, the agency’s spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, said driving against traffic continues to result in avoidable accidents, injuries, and fatalities.

Chairman of the Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, warned that failure to address such violations could escalate into a major public safety threat, reaffirming the agency’s resolve to sustain enforcement.

The operation covered several locations within Ikorodu, including the Haruna axis, where multiple offenders were apprehended.

At the end of the exercise, eight motorists were arraigned before the Mobile Court sitting in Ikorodu. Five of the defendants pleaded guilty to charges including driving against traffic and making illegal U-turns, while three others pleaded not guilty.

The cases of those who pleaded not guilty were adjourned to March 24, 2026, and May 5, 2026, respectively.

Akerele stressed that the agency would not condone violations, adding that enforcement would continue in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

He reiterated the Task Force’s commitment to ensuring compliance with traffic laws and improving safety on roads across the state.
