Veteran American actor Robert Duvall has died at the age of 95.
Duvall, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Tender Mercies, reportedly passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at his home in Middleburg, Virginia.
In a statement shared on Facebook, his wife, Luciana Duvall, said the acclaimed actor died peacefully at home surrounded by love and comfort.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time,” she wrote. “Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.”
Duvall’s career spanned more than six decades, earning him global recognition for iconic roles in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and To Kill a Mockingbird. He was also celebrated for his performances in The Great Santini and Lonesome Dove, among others.
His portrayal of country singer Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies secured him the Oscar in 1983 and cemented his place among Hollywood’s most respected performers.
Luciana Duvall described her husband as not only an award-winning actor and storyteller but also a man deeply devoted to his craft and passionate about life.
“To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything,” she wrote, thanking fans for their support and requesting privacy as the family celebrates his memory.
Duvall’s legacy endures through a body of work widely regarded as some of the most compelling performances in American cinema history.
