The late Nollywood actress, Ajara Lasisi, fondly known as Aunty Ajara, has been laid to rest amid grief and prayers from loved ones and colleagues.
The actress was buried on Thursday in accordance with Islamic rites, as family members, friends, and residents of her community gathered to bid her a final farewell. Emotional scenes played out at the burial ground, with videos and photos from the ceremony circulating widely on social media.
Only close relatives and a few colleagues from the Nollywood industry were present at the burial, where prayers were offered for the repose of her soul.
Aunty Ajara passed away after a prolonged battle with liver disease, a loss that has deeply affected the Nigerian film industry. Her death was earlier confirmed by her management, who described her passing as the end of a long and courageous fight with illness.
In the days before her death, colleagues and supporters had appealed for financial assistance to help cover her medical expenses, attracting sympathy and support from Nigerians both at home and abroad. However, following her demise, her management announced that donations were no longer needed and advised the public to stop sending money to the previously shared account details.
Since the announcement of her death, tributes have continued to pour in across social media platforms, with fans and fellow actors remembering her for her humility, resilience, and commitment to indigenous film productions.
Her burial marks the final goodbye to an actress many described as simple, hardworking, and passionate about her craft—qualities that will ensure her legacy lives on in Nollywood.
