Kehinde Adeleye
Hollywood has unveiled the nominations for the 97th Academy Awards, celebrating the most acclaimed films and performances of the past year, with one film rewriting Oscar history.
Leading this year’s nominations is Sinners, which secured a record breaking 16 nods, surpassing the long standing record previously shared by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997) and La La Land (2016).
The achievement firmly establishes Sinners as the dominant title of the current awards season.
Close behind is One Battle After Another, which earned 13 nominations. Marty Supreme, Frankenstein and Sentimental Value followed with nine nominations each, while Hamnet received eight nods.
The Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 15 March, with US comedian Conan O’Brien set to host the event.
