Victor Osimhen, who left Napoli for Galatasaray  was the star of the match, scoring an impressive hat trick, propelling Nigeria back into the competition for a place in the next round of qualifiers.

Right from the start, Nigeria showed great promise with the midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Raphael Onyedika controlling the possession of the ball, while Osimhen’s power and speed faltered the Beninese backline.

The breakthrough came when Osimhen scored the first goal midway through the first half. Shortly after, the second goal was scored with the assistance of Samuel Chukwueze, making it 2–0 before halftime.

This left Benin struggling to cope with Nigeria’s pace and physical nature, unable to attack back.

Osimhen’s hat trick was completed in the second half, with the assistance of Iwobi and Ademola Lookman. The crowd erupted in celebration as Osimhen pointed skyward in relief and pride.

Coach Eric Chelle who had been under intense pressure due the unimpressive position the Eagles were in the group was visibly pleased on the sidelines. His decision to start Ndidi as captain and give the younger players more freedom in attack paid off greatly.

Frank Onyeka, a substitute, added to the already impressive score, making it 4–0 and sealing a crucial win for Nigeria.

This result has catapulted Nigeria to the second position in Group C standing, closing the gap on South Africa and also sealed their place in the playoffs round.

The victory marks a turning point for the Super Eagles, as they are more determined to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup after an unimpressive start to the qualifying campaign.
